The sun will be in the same place as it was some other day everyday
But today & for reasons we don’t fully understand, another
full solar year has elapsed for you
I’m not saying we don’t understand the mechanics of how this happens, earth orbiting, Newtonian physics, you know F = G m1 m2/r2 stuff
I mean, we don’t reallllllly understand gravity but I digress
No no, we don’t know why time goes this way… it feels like it’s unidirectional, like we only get older, the lucky become wiser too
Gravity holds us here, to live & die & in between, to age!
So…
Dear Gravity,
Mother, sun & the holy force, why?
Maybe we can look on the bright side
That we don’t know very much but have still managed to create cars & cupcakes, to discover the delicious taste of a tangerine, to feel the ocean mist on our face or the warmth of a sweet embrace
We know how it feels, we have known how
So maybe this time around don’t think as much about the why
& instead celebrate the changes as well as the things that have stayed the same — & the wisdom to know when to celebrate & give thanks,
To see the journey around the sun as a return to wonder
Happy birthday!
